17 Akali sarpanchs, 7 ex-sarpanchs from Gurdaspur join Congress

Seventeen sarpanchs and seven ex-sarpanchs from Gurdaspur today joined the Congress after resigning from the Akali Dal. They were inducted into the party by the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh in presence of PCC general secretary Fateh Jang Singh Bajwa. Besides, Balwinder Singh Nabha, Chairman Central Cooperative Bank Gurdaspur also joined the Congress.

Welcoming them into the party, Capt Amarinder said, it was a positive sign that more and more people were getting inclined towards Congress as people had lost trust and faith in the Akalis.

Besides about a hundred active members of the Akali Dal who included MC members, panchs and sarpanchs also joined the party today. They said, they were convinced that only the Congress under the dynamic leadership of Capt Amarinder Singh can steer the state to progress and development.
