Commander In Chief Of Western Command General KJ Singh Calls On Badal

Provisional Service Selection Centre (North) Of Army To Be Functional At Kapurthala From October 1

The Commander in Chief of Western Command of Indian Army Lieutenant General KJ Singh today apprised the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal that the Indian Army has decided to set up a provisional Service Selection Centre (North) at Kapurthala from October 1, this year, till the SSC (North) coming up at Rupnagar, was not functional.Lieutenant General KJ Singh, who called on the Chief Minister today at his residence, apprised him that the Indian Army has given its consent to provisionally establish this centre and has started the process for setting it. Extending an invitation to the Chief Minister for participating in the function to begin the centre on October 1, Lieutenant General KJ Singh informed that the Army has also started the work for setting up the Centre at Rupnagar and the work regarding it would be completed in two years. Pertinently, the state government has given 200 acres of its land for the centre. 

Lauding the Chief Minister for setting up Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for girls on the pattern of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Academy, Lieutenant General KJ Singh said that this would be a unique centre of the country, which would enable the girls to get selected in the Armed forces. Mr. Badal asked Lieutenant General KJ Singh to provide some women Army Officers for the institute to provide quality training to the girls.Lieutenant General KJ Singh also apprised the Chief Minister that on his suggestion he had started some pro-people schemes especially for the people of border areas of the state.Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Dr S Karunaraju and Director Western Command Brigadier DK Ahluwalia.
