575 schools completely damaged in Nepal

As many as 575 schools were completely flattened in 36 districts of Nepal in the massive earthquake that devastated the country on April 25 and the subsequent aftershocks.Similarly, statistics provided by the ministry of education show that 969 schools were found partially damaged. The ministry report said 12 teachers in Sindhupalchwok, eight teachers and 36 students in Nuwakot, and 10 students in Rasuwa were killed in the earthquake.Six students and five teachers in Dhading, four teachers in Gorkha and two students in Kavrepalanchowk were killed during the earthquake. The report says that a large number of schools in Solukhumbu, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Lamjung, Tanahun and Bhojpur districts were damaged. 

According to the report, the temblor completely destroyed eight schools in Kathmandu, nine in Lalitpur and one in Bhaktapur.It said that 99 percent of the schools in Bhaktapur and Lalitpur and 90 percent of the schools in Kathmandu are being used as alternative shelters for quake victims.Khagendra Nepal, chief at the education division, said that the schools in the districts, which were closed after the massive earthquake, would reopen from May 15.
