Rs. 88 Crore To Be Spent For Providing Quality Higher Education

Students from border and Kandi areas opting for higher and professional education have a reason to cheer as admissions in newly set up two Government Degree and two Professional Colleges at Pathankot, Ferozpur Patiala and Jalandhar would begin from next academic session.Disclosing this here, Mr. Surjit Singh Rakhra, Minster for Higher Education, Punjab said that besides this, three government colleges are being up-graded at the earliest.In the press communiqué released here today, he said that Rs.88 crore to be spent on this coveted project to up-grade the standard of higher education in the state. He said that construction work of these colleges would be completed by the December 2015 and academic sessions to start from next year.Mr. Rakhra further said that for providing higher education to the youth of the border areas at their doorsteps, the state government has decided to open two government degree colleges in Ferozepur and Pathankot districts at the cost of Rs.12 crore each. 

He said that 50 per cent construction work of these colleges have already been completed with the release of first instalment of Rs.4 crore each and remaining instalment of Rs.8-8 crore will be released soon.Higher Education Minister said that to acknowledge the need of professional education to the youth of the state, the Government Aeronautics Engineering College is being set up at Patiala with the cost of Rs.26 crore. The state government has already released Rs.3.25 crore as first instalment and the construction work of this college has started. Similarly, the construction work of another professional college i.e. Government Sports College, Jalandhar, is on its starting stage, which would be completed with the cost of Rs.26 crore.Mr. Rakhra said that three Government Colleges of Hoshiarpur, SAS Nagar and Ludhiana are being up-graded from this academic session at the cost of Rs.4 crore each. He said that the state government has released first instalment of Rs.50 lac each to the college administrations. He further said that with the up-gradation, the colleges would be equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities.
