Sensex trades flat: IT stocks hit

A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip BSE Sensitive Index (Sensex), was trading flat in the mid-afternoon session on Wednesday, marginally up by 22 points or 0.08 percent.The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading flat during the mid-afternoon trade session. It was, however, down by 4.85 points or 0.06 percent at 8,372.90 points.The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,756.68 points, was trading at 27,698.08 points (at 1.00 p.m.), up 22.04 points or 0.08 percent from the previous day's close at 27,676.04 points.

The Sensex had touched a high of 27,827.66 points and a low of 27,664.32 points in the intra-day trade so far.In Wednesday's trade, so far healthy buying was observed in healthcare, capital goods and fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors.However, stocks of information technology (IT), automobile, banks, technology, entertainment and media (TECK) and oil and gas came under heavy selling pressure.The BSE S&P healthcare index grew by 87.35 points, followed by capital goods index which increased by 73.29 points and FMCG index gained by 24.83 points.However, the S&P BSE IT index was plunged by 122.52 points, automobile index receded by 86.48 points, banks index declined by 73.25 points, TECK index was lower by 61.72 points and oil and gas index decreased by 34.52 points.
