State BJP chief Kamal Sharma today congratulated the Punjab unit of the party for crossing 20 lacs membership in the ongoing membership drive in Punjab.In a statement issued form the party headquarters here, Sharma said that across the state party would celebrate this achievement of making history by crossing the 20 lacs marks, in the entire district by holding various level functions.Sharma said that membership drive clearly showed that after membership drive, party’s base in Punjab has increased manifold. “Out of the total members the party has now at present, more than 50% were from Sikh community and are from rural areas which clearly show that our base in rural areas have increased sharply,” said the state BJP chief.

Sharma said that the membership that started on November 17 has made the party a largest political party on the globe where people from all walks of life, all regions all castes and all areas are joining the BJP because of the policies of the party.He said that the achieving a new height in the membership in the state was the result of hard work put in by the BJP workers as the ground level and they are the real hero behind this achievement. “It was the worker at grass root level who took the policies of the party to the common man in order to project the party,” said Sharma, adding that in Punjab, the party would very soon cross the 21 lacs target before the membership ends on April 31 this year.
