Media persons to be awarded: Speaker

Gul asks assembly employees to work with dedication, follow up ATRs

The Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly  Mubarak Gul today said that media persons will be given Press Awards this year as was being done before. He said that the practice of awarding media persons was stopped and has been started from this year and the persons who have registered outstanding performances would be rewarded.The Speaker was interacting with the staff of Assembly Secretariat during a meeting convened to thank the departments concerned with the smooth functioning of the just concluded Assembly session.

The Speaker thanked the departments including Information, Radio Kashmir, Doordarshan, General Administration Department, Police, Law, Estates, R&B, Floriculture, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Health, Hospitality and Protocol, PDD, Fire and Emergency Services, PHE and other concerned departments. He also thanked the Chief Secretary, Financial Commissioners, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries and Head of the Departments for giving their whole-hearted support in conducting the session smoothly.The Speaker appreciated the employees of Assembly Secretariat for performing their duties with dedication, however, he directed them to deliver with zeal and follow up the Action Taken Reports (ATRs) of all public interest issues raised in the House during the session.With regard to grievances of the employees of the Assembly Secretariat, the Speaker said that the reorganization of the Assembly Secretariat is under active consideration.Giving details of the Business transacted during the course of session, the Speaker said that as many as 21 Questions were taken up and 71 Supplementaries were raised during the session.He said as many as 108 public importance issues were raised by the members during Zero Hour and 2 Government Bills were passed, 7 Private Members Bills were taken up and 01 Private Members Bills introduced.Mr. Gul further said that 72 Calling Attentions were received and 38 were listed during the session.

Besides, 33 Number of Resolutions were received out of which 29 were admitted, 4 disallowed and 3 were taken up for discussion, he told. As many as 9 Papers were laid in the House, 3 discussions were allowed and one Adjournment Motion was discussed. The total duration of the House was 28 hours and 15 minutes during the session, the Speaker said.Secretary, Legislative Assembly M. Ramzan also spoke on the occasion and briefed the Speaker about the allotments of residential accommodation provided by the Estates Department to the employees of the Assembly Secretariat.
