Punjab To Provide Free Transport Facility To School Going Children Residing In Small Settlements: Maluka

Schools With Lesser Students Along With Teachers To Be Merged In Adjoining Schools, Special Transport Arrangements For Girl Students Shortly

The Punjab Government is contemplating to provide free transport facility to the school going children residing in small settlements to ensure their proper and regular education. Besides this, the education department was also finalizing a move to merge schools with fewer students with adjoining schools along with the teachers working there.Disclosing this here today,  Sikander Singh Maluka, Punjab Education Minister, said that keeping in view the hardships being faced by the little school going students residing in small settlements (Dhanis and Brick kilns), this decision has been taken so that the children could get regular education in nearby schools. He said that free transport facility would also be provided to girls students living in remote villages. The Education Minister further said that to impart quality education to students studying in Government Primary Schools, it has also been decided the schools with very few students should be merged with adjoining schools along with adjustment of their teachers, so that required infrastructure could be provided for quality education. He said that he has directed Principal Secretary Education to work out on the details for these proposed steps so that these initiatives could be materialized at the earliest. 

The meeting was attended by  S.S. Channi, Principal Secretary Education,  Kamal Garg, DPI Secondary and  Gurmeet Singh Jaura, Member Punjab State Backward Classes Commission besides senior officers of education department.
