Sensex up 104 points, healthcare stocks rise

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip BSE Sensitive Index (Sensex), made healthy gains in the afternoon trade session Tuesday. It was trading up 104 points or 0.37 percent, as healthcare stocks rose.The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also made gains during the afternoon trade session. It was trading up 36.60 points or 0.43 percent at 8,587.50 points.The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 28,209.33 points, was trading at 28,295.71 points (12.30 p.m.), up 103.69 points or 0.37 percent from the previous day's close at 28,192.02 points.The Sensex touched a high of 28,366.41 points and a low of 28,157.83 points in the intra-day trade so far.Health buying was observed in healthcare, information technology (IT), oil and gas, consumer durables and technology, entertainment and media (TECK) sectors.

However, automobile, bank, capital goods, metal and realty sectors came under selling pressure.The S&P BSE healthcare index was up 283.95 points, followed by IT index which augmented by 52.04 points, oil and gas index was higher by 47.79 points, consumer durables index rose 44.60 points and TECK index gained 38.73 points.The S&P BSE automobile index was down 50.84 points, bank index was lower by 45.96 points, capital goods index fell 24.14 points, metal index dipped by 15.87 points and realty index slipped 5.48 points.
