Allegation meant to damage Congress: Saroori

Congress legislator and MLA Inderwal G M Saroori, while condemning former Army Chief V K Singh’s remarks, questioned their timing.Saroori said Army had played a wonderful role in countering militancy in the State. But Gen Singh’s allegations were meant to damage the image of the Congress party, which is in coalition in the Jammu and Kashmir state.“It is a move to defame Central and State governments. He should be brought here and asked to prove his allegations, and if he can’t he should be taken to court,” Saroori demanded.The charges being of a serious nature and need to be probed to arrive at the truth. “The finger of suspicion is being pointed at all mainstream politicians, causing immense damage to the institution of democracy in the state and allowed forces inimical to democratic process to dub all mainstream politicians as paid operatives of the Army,” Saroori said.

He said resolution against the former Army chief was passed in the Assembly asking the Centre to conduct a thorough and time-bound probe into the charges levelled by former Army Chief V.K. Singh about political payoffs to mainstream politicians of the state, know Centre will decide whether to conduct probe in this matter or not.Saroori also raised the issue of one Dil Mohammad labourer of his (Inderwal) constituency, who is missing for the past two months and wanted proper investigation to establish his whereabouts.He urged government for improved irrigation and water supply (PHE) facilities in Inderwal constituency besides appropriate steps should be taken to redress the grievances regarding improvement of irrigation and water supply facilities in Inderwal constituency well in time.
