The wheat procurement in Punjab is set to clock a record figure of 130 lac metric tonnes with procurement touching 128.63 lac metric tonnes mark on Tuesday.Congratulating the hardworking farmers of Punjab . Adaish Partap Singh Kairon, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Punjab said that it was gratifying that farmers of Punjab made record payment of Rs. 16528.96 crores as Minimum Support Price on wheat vis a vis Rs. 6715 Crores paid to them 5 years ago in year 2007-08 on 79 LMT as MSP & Bonus. . Kairon said that though we were busy in the 2012 Vidhan Sabha elections but we have made full arrangements for hassle free procurement of wheat. . Kairon said that the credit goes to the farmers of Punjab that Procurement of wheat has increased by 62% and payment to farmers

has increased by 145% over the figures of 2007-08. He said that it was appreciable that due to effective and efficient management of procurement, Food Department the state has witnessed approximately three fold increase in revenue by Rs. 1472.2 crores over the figures of 2007-08. . Kairon said that keeping in view the bumper wheat crop, he held series of meetings with the officials of Union Finance Ministry for the sanction of additional funds to ensure the timely payments to the hard working farmers.
