Set up Medical College in Poonch: Dr. Shehnaz Ganai

Dr Shenaz Ganai, today called on  Hon’ble Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azdad, at New Delhi and submitted a charter of demands, for the twin Border Districts and also  highlighted the poor condition of health and family welfare in the twin Border Districts “Rajouri and Poonch”.She informed the Hon’ble Union Minister that Poonch and Rajouri districts are the worst sufferers be it partition, development, or cross LOC Firing incidents, but the people  of the area have expectations from us and they are looking at us with tearful eyes and my prime duty being the representative of people,  is to highlight their basic needs at every forum and  get the issues redressed.She informed that, Poonch has difficult topography, remoteness of areas and hilly terrain,and requires a well defined and powerful health system to attend to the public needs. She informed the minister that it is the prime time to sanction/setup one Medical college at Poonch, Besides setting of Tertiary Health Centres, so that not only the  people of the twin Border districts get the best medical facilities at Doorsteps, but also it will attract patients from other like Rawalakote, Pindi etc which will boost medical Tourism in the Area. .

She said that "Poonch has historically been a major political point of the state. It has suffered most due to the partition now can act as bridge between two nations with Cross-LOC  medical Tourism for uniting/treating the pided families. It will also boost the local tribal economy of the area, and this decision will go a long way in addressing the genuine demand of the people of the these twin border districts. She also demanded up-gradation of Sub District Hospital Mandi from 30 Bedded to 50 Bedded, besides setting up of Emergency block, labour Room, Laboratory, blood storage unit under NRHM. She Demanded Critical care ambulances for the Twin Districts as the Districts are hilly and prone to accidents. She also demanded more sub centres for Border areas for providing medical aid in the far flung areas. Minister for R&B, Sh Majid Ahmed Wani was also present on the occasion.
