59391 motorcyclists challaned for various traffic offences: Ali Mohammad Sagar

Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Ali Mohammad Sagar on behalf of Home Minister replying to a question by Mr. Ghulam Nabi Monga regarding driving of two wheelers without wearing helmet, said that the Traffic Police has enhanced the regulation system by carrying out surprise and random checks by special squad, so as to exercise strict vigil on each route and vulnerable areas to act as deterrence for the violators.The Minister said, besides seizure of 350 bikes, as many as 59, 391 challans were made against the motorcyclists up to ending August, 2013 for various offences including non-wearing of crash helmet, double-pillion riding and non- possession of driving license.Mr. Sagar said that field staff has also been directed to ensure effectiveness in checking of visible offences in their respective jurisdictions. He further said that to curb the menace of driving scooters without helmets by young boys along with their associates, the traffic campaigns, seminars, debates, road shows are also being organized regularly in educational institutions for sensitizing the youth.Traffic weeks are also being organized involving young students of schools and colleges for spreading traffic awareness among them.Syed Rafiq Ahmad Shah also raised a supplementary to the question.
