National Conference Working President and former chief minister Omar Abdullah,  who was among the first to cast his vote in favour of Ghulam Nabi Azad, Saturday asked PDP why they are shying away to form the government when their alliance with BJP is already known to everybody.“PDP was boasting about the miracles during the floods if the government would have been theirs but now when have got the chance I wonder why are they shying away to form the government and when their alliance is already known to everybody,” Omar told reporters in Jammu. The former chief minister also said that the NC would sit in the opposition. “Azad Sahab's victory was important for the secular ethos of the state and every secular party and individual secular MLA’s voted for his victory,” he said.

Omar said, “I was sure that Azad Sahab will win although the attempts were made by other parties for his defeat. It was unfortunate that some police and civil officers were used to defeat of Azad Sahab but it did not work for them.”He said that if both PDP and BJP came together for the Raj Sabha elections what stops them to form a government. “Both the parties should come and form government and fulfill their promises.”Asked why despite a rift with Congress, NC supported Azad he said, “When PDP and BJP who have different ideologies came together what is wrong that NC supported Congress for this Raj Sabha election.”On being asked about the Delhi polls, he said he would take the media poll surveys, predicting a clear win for the Aam Aadmi Party, with a pinch of salt. “In assembly elections here, you had given us only five, but we got 15 (seats),”he said.
