Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik Tuesday said that state subject act was enacted by erstwhile Maharaja in 1927 and main reason for it was that Kashmir being a hill state full of natural resources needed to be safeguarded from the flow of population.“Also Jammu Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory which is still waiting for a permanent solution. The people of Jammu Kashmir are rendering sacrifices for their right of self determination and hence state subject law and fighting for its protection is directly related to our resistance struggle. Being a “highly qualified legal authority’ Muzafar Beigh should be aware of all these facts,” Malik said while reacting to Muzafar Beigh’s recent statement in which he had expressed his surprise over the resistance camp talking about article 370.

“Muzafar Beigh is a qualified person and a successful lawyer and hence understanding these simple things should not be any rocket science for him. He should know that people of Jammu Kashmir are struggling for their right of self determination and this dispute is internationally recognized. In this situation how can people of Jammu Kashmir be such fools that they will allow lakhs of non-Kashmiris to be granted permanent citizenship of Jammu Kashmir and change the whole equilibrium of the population?” he asked.Malik said that this state subject law was not made by India or any Kashmiri. “It was enacted in 1927 by erstwhile Maharaj of Jammu Kashmir who visibly cared for the ecology of Jammu Kashmir more than these new era pro-India politicians. When resistance camp talks about safeguarding state subject law we have nothing to do with Indian constitution. It is NC, PDP and other pro-India parties and their members like Muzafar Baigh who on one side use rhetoric of safeguarding article 370 to hoodwink people but on the other side have eroded it to such level that former home minister and interim prime minister of India Gulzari Lal Nanda referred to it as a shell and said that “Whether you keep it or not, it has been completely emptied of its contents. Nothing has been left in it”,” he said.

The JKLF chairman said that when “we talk of safeguarding the state subject act we talk of safeguarding the law enacted by erstwhile Maharaj who wanted to save Jammu Kashmir’s political environment, social fabric, ecology and resources.”“It is not Kashmiris who communalized this act .it is in fact RSS and its allies who with the help of politicians like Muzafar Beigh have communalized the situation and are hell bent on destroying the unity of people for their pity gains. Even if this law was not in place, how was it possible for people of a disputed territory, who are fighting for their right of self determination and whose future is yet to be ascertained, to allow thousands of outsiders being granted the permanent citizenship of their land and hence bury their struggle by their own hands?” Malik asked.

“Muzafar Beigh by giving such ideas is either portraying to be naive or is trying to be over smart and fool Kashmiris for his pity interests,” he said.On Baigh’s remarks of meeting RSS, Malik said,

“This was not leaked by any newspaper or agency but was exposed by me myself. We have been meeting Indian people, organizations, civil society and trying to make them understand Kashmir issue and importance of its resolution. We have been doing so as a part of our duty towards Jammu Kashmir issue. We met people to make them understand Kashmiri perspective. We like these pro-India politicians don’t meet people to get power, ministry or any other personal gains. People of Jammu Kashmir recognize their friends and foes .they understand who stands for their rights and who is hell bent on destroying them and Mr Baigh and all other pro-India politicians must keep it in mind that people of Jammu Kashmir will never allow their anti Kashmiri agendas to succeed,” he said.
