Army organized blood donation camp in Badami Bagh

In the run up to Republic Day  and  67th  Army Day, Blood Donation and Awareness Camp was organized under the aegis of Chinar Corps at 92 Base Hospital located in Badami Bag Cantonment, Srinagar on 24 January 2015.According to a statement issued to KNS the number of events are being organised by Chinar Corps in the run up of 67th Army Day and Republic Day. The blood donation camp was organised at 92 Base Hospital Srinagar on 24 Jan 2015, wherein Army personnel’s voluntarily donated more than 250 units of blood. The purpose of this camp was to help patients requiring blood transfusion at Srinagar and nearby areas. 

The Chinar Corps Commander Lt General Subrata Saha inaugurated the blood donation camp and said that in last five months, Army organised the Blood Donation Campaign in Kashmir twice. First one was immediately after floods when there was a dire necessity to recreate the blood reserves of the hospitals. During this dive, seven donations camps were held across Kashmir and over 1520 pints of blood was made available to various hospitals. The second campaign to reinforce the blood reserves of hospitals in Valley was started on 10 Jan and today’s camp was the fifth camp held in the run up to 67th Army Day and Republic Day. 

In the record campaign a total of 980 pints of blood has been donated and distributed among various hospital of the Valley, taking the tally of blood donation post floods to 2500 pints. The General Officer also expressed his gratitude to the doctors, paramedics from SKIMS and Lal Ded Hospital who had gathered there for the event. The blood was handed over to the blood bank officials of LAL Ded Hospital and SKIMS after the completion of the Blood donation Camp.

The Army, in their humble way, volunteered to assist the civil administration in this noble cause and conducted fifth Blood Donation Camp in the run up of Republic Day 2015 wherein  250 units of blood was donated by Army  Donors to the civil Hospitals.The blood units collected were provided to SKIMS and LAL Ded Hospitals of Srinagar. For the rare blood groups, Army Jawans volunteered to donate blood as Army maintains the record of such rare blood groups .Senior officials of public health department present during the event mentioned that the blood will meet the urgent surgical requirement at the hospitals and thanked Army for the sustained effort, spread over five months, to ensure that the there is no short fall in blood reserves in Kashmir.
