Extortionists masquerading as militants arrested: Police

Police have arrested two persons masquerading as militants who were extorting money from the people in Seer area of Tral in south Kashmir.A police spokesman said police station Tral was informed by some locals of village Seer that two persons barged in a house and extorted Rs 10000 on gun point. “Police swung in action and laid a cordon in the area. Two extortionists who were identified as Rafiq Ahmad Bhat alias Dada and Abdul Rashid Wani residents of Tral were arrested and a toy pistol that almost resembles with the actual pistol was recovered from their possession,” he said. The duo was masquerading as militants and extorting money.Police have registered a case FIR number 05/2015 under section 392 RPC, 7/25 A. Act against them and investigation has been started.

Meanwhile, Baramulla police arrested two extortionists and recovered a toy gun and pistol used in the crime in Kreeri area.“Sonaullhah Wani reported in police station Kreeri that during the intervening night of Jan 12-13, two masked extortionists held him at gunpoint and looted Rs 60'000, two cell phones and ATM card from his residence in Kreeri. Police registered a case FIR no 04/2015 under section 392, 7/25 and started an investigation into the matter. During the investigation, it was revealed that the looted ATM card was used for withdrawal of money at Wagoora. The CCTV footage of the ATM led police to identify the culprits and in a series of raids arrested Viqar Ahmad Bhat and Nisar Ahmad Sofi both residents of Kreeri,” police spokesman said.“Police recovered an artificial gun a look alike of Insas rifle, toy pistol, a dragger and a knife from their instances. The two cell phones were also recovered from them. The duo has been found to be involved in similar offences that have occurred in the area,” he added.
