Punjab Police Unearths Racket Of Illegal Weapons In A Joint Operation With Maharashtra Police

The Punjab Police, in a joint operation with the Maharashtra Police has unearthed a racket of illegal weapons being supplied to terrorists and criminals. The joint operation started after the busting of a terrorist module by the Punjab Police in district Fatehgarh Sahib in which 14 persons have been arrested so far , along with recovery of 10 weapons, including 1 AK-47 rifle and 9 small weapons.

Disclosing this here today, Gurmit Singh Chauhan, SSP said that in pursuance of leads developed during the investigation of the terrorist module and the questioning of Satnam Singh, the ringleader of the module arrested from Sangli in Maharashtra, a police party comprising 5 officials headed by an Sub Inspector was dispatched to Maharashtra for effecting the arrest of Gurwinder Singh, who had figured as a suspect in the   investigations. He said that arrest warrants of Gurwinder Singh were obtained and he was nabbed in a joint operation with the Maharashtra Police. The questioning of Gurwinder Singh uncovered a vast racket of illegal arms being operated in Maharashtra and names of several suspects in possession of illegal arms figured. Joint operations were conducted with the Maharashtra Police and a case FIR No. 174 dated 15-9-2013 u/s 25 Arms Act, PS Wazirabad, district Nanded Sahib was registered, he added.He revealed that district police of Nanded Sahib in joint operations with the Punjab Police had arrested four persons namely Bhag Inder Singh @ Lucky s/o Gursagar Singh r/o near Dashmesh hospital, opposite gurudwara gate no. 2, Nanded Sahib , Manpreet Singh s/o Gobind Singh r/o village Kanjiwal, district Nanded Sahib, Rajwinder Singh- arrested by Maharashtra police and Parminder Singh s/o Babu Singh – employee of Management Committee of gurudwara sahib, Nanded Sahib.

He further said that the questioning of Gurwinder Singh and the four persons arrested by Maharashtra Police has revealed ramifications of a vast racket of illegal arms and vital clues about the kingpins of this racket have been found. He expected that there would be more arrests and recoveries of weapons after unearthing of this illegal racket. He said that Gurwinder Singh has been produced before the Judicial Magistrate in Nanded Sahib from where his transit remand up to September 19, 2013 has been obtained and he was being brought back to Fatehgarh Sahib for his further questioning. The four persons arrested by the Maharashtra Police are in police custody upto September 19, 2013 for their further questioning. Further investigations are in progress.He said that the two officials of district Fatehgarh Sahib, who played a significant role in the investigation, have been promoted to the higher local rank by the Punjab DGP Mr. Sumedh Singh for their encouragement.
