BSF seizes 11 kg silver, 12.48 gm gold in Bengal

Border Security Force troopers seized 12.48 gm gold and 11 Kg silver and apprehended one Bangladeshi national in two separate operations on the India-Bangladeshi border in West Bengal, a statement said Monday.Acting on a tip off, personnel of the BSF's 130 Battalion at the border outpost in Mohanganj of Murshidabad district intercepted a suspected Bangladeshi citizen from near the international border when he was trying to cross the border into India Sunday evening.On questioning, the 18-year-old revealed his identity as Milan Kumar Ghosh from Putia Bazar in Rajshahi district of the neighbouring country, a BSF release said.

Following a thorough search, BSF troopers seized a gold plate weighing approximately 12.48 gms.Ghosh has been handed over to Raninagar police station for further interrogation.Another BSF unit recovered the silver from the border area of Madhupur under Nadia district Sunday morning.BSF's South Bengal Frontier has seized over 93.68 kg gold and 86.61 kg silver valued at Rs.26,13,77,297 and Rs.36,94,332 respectively, while apprehending 41 gold smugglers and 3 three silver smugglers in 2014.
