The BJP's Delhi unit Thursday urged union Home Rajnath Singh to ensure better living conditions for the city's police force, a statement said.In a letter, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi chief Satish Upadhyay accused the previous Congress government of "completely neglecting" the maintenance of police colonies and advocated the building of multi-story houses for the force."The condition of these houses is pathetic.. there is inadequate water supply and sewerage system is in shambles," Upadhyay said in the letter naming police colonies situated in Kingsway Camp, Malviya Nagar, Hauz Khas, Andrews Ganj, R.K. Puram, Narela, Paharganj etc.Upadhyay urged Singh to ensure that maintenance of the colonies must be ensured by the concerned civic authority - the Public Works Department.

"A systematic policy should be adopted and a department should be created under the Delhi Police for maintenance work."In view of shortage of land, multi storied flats should be constructed so that police personnel get better housing accommodation and the problem of shortage of staff quarters is also solved," Upadhyay said.
