Ridiculing Congress for making ‘brazen claims’ about being a part of the next government or to emerge as a single largest party after assembly elections, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader and party candidate for Amirakadal constituency Syed Altaf Bukhari on Saturday said these claims are being made just to mislead the people about their political strength in Jammu and Kashmir.Addressing various gatherings during his door-to-door meeting in Baghat Rawatpora, Bukhari, said, “Do they expect people of Jammu and Kashmir to vote for hanging Afzal Guru out of turn? It is an open secret now that Congress made Guru a scapegoat in a desperate attempt to save its chair in Delhi while as it could not even touch the state subjects of Tamil Nadu and Punjab who were also awaiting execution.”

The PDP leader said that Congress hanged Guru out of turn and if the BJP was after his blood, Congress handed him on a platter. “By doing so, Congress played a double communal card to appease its vote bank by communalizing the political atmosphere across the country.” Bukhari lamented that there has been no significant development during the Congress rule in the state and instead in league with National Conference the party has been indulging in corruption, inept governance and wanton loot of J&K’s natural resources. The PDP candidate for Amirakadal constituency observed that in lieu of power in Jammu and Kashmir Congress saved Dr Farooq Abdullah in Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Scam and his son Omar Abdullah in 2010 killings and in Haji Yousf’s cold blooded murder. The PDP senior leader said that Congress and the National Conference even crossed the limits by hobnobbing with BJP in Jammu for their petty political gains. “Their leaders got elected to Rajeya Sabha and the legislative council through hobnobbing with BJP. The inefficiency, poor development and the worst political opportunism under Congress led regimes have provided a space for BJP to emerge on the political landscape of the country.”Bukhari said that it was due to the inefficiency, corruption and bad governance under Congress-National Conference rule in Jammu and Kashmir that the people of the state have always been at the receiving end.

“These two parties are responsible for the prevailing unrest in Jammu and Kashmir and now sensing their decimation in the last two phases of elections, both the parties are busy in making false claims to remain relevant on the political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir,” Bukhari remarked. He said PDP’s appeal for vote and support is not aimed at attaining power but to create conducive atmosphere for peace, progress and development and above all to address the peoples’ urge for dignity and honor. “Witnessing an impressive voter turnout in last two phases, we are confident that winds of change are sweeping the state. It is evident that people have decided to hold to account the political parties who not only indulged in loot and corruption, but also polluted the political atmosphere in the state in furtherance of their nefarious political agenda,” Bukhari observed.
