India Today Group Survey Finds Ludhiana As Best Emerging City In Housing In Country

Nation today recognised Ludhiana as the "Best Emerging City" as leading news magazine "India Today" in its latest survey commissioned by the India Today group last year declared Ludhiana as the "Best Emerging City" in terms of Housing. After receiving this award in New Delhi, Punjab Irrigation Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said that this award reflects the revival of realty sector in state despite global and national depression in the economic scenario.he said this ranking by India Today group is a slap on the face of Congress leadership that has been crying hoarse about the lack of housing facilities in the state. "This award is a result of innovative steps and pro people policies adopted by Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM  Sukhbir Singh Badal in boosting the realty sector of Punjab," said Mr Dhillon.

This award was presented by Mr Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister for Urban Development, Parliamentary Affairs, and Housing and Poverty Alleviation at an award function organised in New Delhi last evening.

Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said that urbanisation was now the top agenda of SAD-BJP government. "This shows the rising importance of the city structure in our politics as urban areas are the engines of economic growth. Ludhiana is not only the financial capital of the state but is also a big investment destination in terms of housing. Our government has already constructed more than 4,000 housing flats for urban poor in different parts of Ludhiana. 

Besides this, a large number of private players have invested and are still investing in the realty sector in Ludhiana," informed the Minister, who himself is a resident of Ludhiana.While addressing the awards function, Mr Dhillon raised the issue of our villages also being developed by the NDA government. He requested Mr Venkaiah Naidu to prepare a plan through which the villages of country are developed like the urban cities. "More than 70% of our population lives in villages and the centre government should contribute its share so that the villages can also be given an urban look," he said. The second edition of India Today's Best Cities of India Report studied 30 capital and metro cities and 20 emerging cities on 12 parameters - overall, economy, housing, transport, public services, healthcare, education, crime and safety, entertainment, environment, investment and cleanliness.
