Army organises blood donation camps

In a drive to recreate the blood reserves in various hospitals of  Kashmir post floods, Army concluded sixth consecutive blood  donation camp, taking the overall quantity of blood donated so far since floods to over 1370 units.In a statement a defence spokesman said last blood donation camp as part of this initiative was organized  at Batpora Stadium, Shopian in South Kashmir today under the leadership of Maj Gen ST Upasani, the General Officer Commanding, Victor Force. “The aim of the series of blood donation camps was to enhance the blood holdings of the local hospitals before the onset of winters. This will help the patients requiring blood transfusion and ease the problem of hospitals battling blood shortage for undertaking life saving surgeries. Alongside the blood donation camp, a medical camp was also organised to help the Awaam avail quality health care facilities in their area,” he said.

Both the camps were inaugurated by Maj Gen Upasani. These camps were organised in a collaborative manner with active participation of local youth and civil administration. Blood donors, doctors and para-medics came from the Army as well as civil fraternity, he added“During the camp organised today, approximately 120 soldiers and youth donated the blood. In the previous five blood donation camps which were conducted at 92 Base Hospital , JAKLI Centre, Anantnag High Ground and ADS Baramulla, approx 1250 units of blood had been donated to the local Hospitals to meet their surgical requirements.  A number of Hospitals had approached Army to contribute to the ever growing requirement of blood for undertaking various types of life saving surgeries,” he said.
