Phillaur Orders Enquiry Into Bathinda Jail Warden Selling Drugs In Central Jail

 Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Jails, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Punjab has ordered an enquiry into the incident where Nachattar Singh, Jail Warden of Bathinda Central Jail caught red handed while selling drugs to the prisoners in connivance with a jail inmate. Meanwhile a case under NDPS Act has already been registered against the culprits at police station civil lines Bathinda. In a statement issued here today, the Minister said that the state government was fully geared up to tackle the unfortunate situation of drug smuggling in the jails and was keeping a hawk's eye on the activities of the jail authorities and inmates and "their activities would be constantly monitored", said the Minister. He also said that the officers from within the department found guilty of breaking the norms would be dealt with firmly and a strict administrative action would be initiated against them. The nexus between the drug peddlers and the jails authorities would be broken on priority, he added. Phillaur further said that modern jails would be set-up in Aitsar, Muktsar, Ferozepur and Bathinda districts on the pattern of Kapurthala Jail. The total cost of the project would be Rs. 500 crore, said  Phillaur. De addiction centers were being set up in jails and as many as 200 jail inmates of Kapurthala jail inmates have been de-addicted with the help of counseling and medicines. The government would also establish eight more prison houses, de-addiction centers meant exclusively for counseling and for the jail inmates fully equipped with medicines and four doctors, one Psychiatrist and five pharmacists in each prison house, added  Phillaur.
