Simarjit Singh Bains and Balwinder Singh Bains, both independent MLAs from Atam Nagar and Ludhiana South constituencies respectively, today announced their return to their parent party by extending unconditional support to SAD in the presence of Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister, Punjab. Escorted by Youth Akali Dal President Bikram Singh Majithia, Observer Ludhiana district and Irrigation Minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon, accompanied by four councilors, both MLAs announced that they have realized that Shiromani Akali Dal is the only party in Punjab that can fulfill the aspirations of people of Punjab and they have decided to extend their unconditional support to the party by becoming its associate members. Welcoming their support to the parent party, Sukhbir Singh Badal said that soon you should expect leaders from other parties joining SAD as they are already in touch with us. He said that SAD-BJP Government is committed to translate its development agenda into reality within next 3 years and the government has already started to give final touches to the blueprints. He said that the budget this year would reflect the development vision of SAD-BJP government and said that the government was fully committed to fulfill the aspirations of people of Punjab.When asked about storage problem being faced for the procured wheat in the state, Badal put the onus on Union Government for failing to find a long term solution for grain storage. He said that the fact is that Congress led UPA Government waits for full blown crisis before taking any action and doesn’t believe in taking any preventive measures to avert such crisis. He said that it is for the first time that the Industrial Associations of the country have started blaming Congress led UPA Government for its policy paralysis. He said that down grading the rating of Indian Economy by international body S & P was worrisome as it has sent negative signals to international investors.On asking about Captain’s opposition to waiver of Punjab’s debt, the Deputy Chief Minster said that it reminds him about the behaviour of ‘defeated kings’, who used to destroy their kingdoms when defeated in the war. He said that what Punjab is seeking its rightful share in the central taxes. He said that Punjab was getting only 1.3 percent of central taxes collected form the state and other states were getting 16 to 23 percent. Punjab was just demanding raising its share to 20 percent minimum, he added. Badal said that debt accumulated on the state was because of expenses on central forces during the period of disturbance in the state and it was the duty of the Union Government to bear the expenses of central forces. He said that during last five years SAD-BJP Government has stablised the economy of Punjab by ensuring resurgence in the revenue. He said that against 46 percent GSDP ratio during Congress regime and 60 percent of GSDP of Union Government, SAD-BJP government has brought the GSDP 29.7 percent.When asked about the stand of Shiromani Akali Dal on the proposed candidature for the post of President and Vice-President of India, Badal said that SAD was bound by the collective decision of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and they have not yet got any formal communication from NDA in this regard. Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, PWD Minister, Darshan Singh Shivalik, S.R. Kaler, Manpreet Singh Ayali and Ranjit Singh Dhillon (all MLAs) and supporters of Bains brothers.
