NHW-1A being closed for repair/maintenance from 10th to 12th October, 2014

Due to the torrential rains in the month of September, 2014 which resulted in the damage to large number of vulnerable stretches along the NHW-1A and subsequent suspension of traffic for twelve days. Due to the strenuous efforts of Beacon/Leighton/Nauyaga authorities, the road was temporality restored for one way traffic more so in view of the situation emerging in the Valley after devastating floods. The efforts were to allow the one way traffic to pump in maximum essential commodities and relief materials into the Valley. Now as the things have started getting normal and traffic flow on NHW-1A has increased there is an urgent need to restore the damaged portions of the road and make it worthy for two way traffic.

Now that one portion of hillside at Gangroo (Ramsoo) has developed cracks and needs to be addressed urgently otherwise it can prove dangerous for the passengers and others travelling/moving on NHW-1A. Beacon authorities have recommended closing down of the road for 10th, 11th and 12th October, 2014 in order to address this stretch of road and make the same traffic worthy. Besides, other bottlenecks which could not be addressed earlier by the concerned authority due to continuous flow of traffic on NHW-1A from 16.09.2014 are also to be addressed/repaired and efforts will be made to make the road worthy for two way traffic (.) Keeping in view the safety and security of the passengers and addressing of bottlenecks/other dangerous stretches, the NHW-1A (i.e. Srinagar-Jammu National Highway) shall remain closed for three days i.e. 10th, 11th and 12th October, 2014 and no movement of vehicular traffic, whatsoever, either from Jammu or Valley shall be allowed on NHW-1A during the above said period. This will be effective from 2200 hours of 09.10.2014.

However, in order to facilitate the passengers, transportation of fruits and essential commodities, the Passenger Service Vehicles (LMVs only), empty oil tankers, empty trucks and fruit laden load carriers (Medium sized only) can use Mughal road for their movement from Srinagar towards Jammu on 10th, 11th and 12th October 2014 after getting clearance from District Administration regarding feasibility/status of the road. Similarly all type of vehicles of the above said category intending to move to Valley can use Synthen Top-Kishtwar route for their movement towards Valley during the said period.

Director information J&K, Srinagar is requested to pass on the above information to Radio/print/electronic media regularly on daily basis for information of the public in general and transporters/road users in particular in particular so that inconvenience to the general public is avoided. (KNS)
