A BJP leader told KNS that elections should be held at due date and relief and rehabilitation of flood victims can be taken up under the governor’s rule. “

There is an atmosphere in favour of BJP in Jammu and Kashmir as the coalition government has failed on every front particularly during the floods. However, there is a section in the party that wants  elections be delayed and the rehabilitation of flood victims be taken up under the Governor’s rule,” a BJP leader told KNS pleading anonymity.Reports have informed that the state unit of BJP has also asserted before its high command that the winters ahead could act as the spoilsport for the poll campaigns and holding of elections in March or April would further derail the process.

A senior BJP leader while pleading anonymity said that the state BJP unit is of the opinion  that polls must be held on due date with next government be formed prior to winter months. As around 10 assembly segments have been affected due to the recent floods, the party’s state leadership has strongly advocated for the proper rehabilitation of the affected regions. It has also assured the leadership at New Delhi that it is in the position to sweep at least seven to 10 assembly seats in valley alone.Interestingly, the state Congress has also been advocating for the conduction of polls on due date, maintaining that elections on due date would pave way for the proper campaigning as the same could get hampered at large due to the coming winter months if polls are delayed.Pertinently BJP leader Nirmal Singh yesterday said that relief and rehabilitation of flood victims should be the priority of all political parties and talking about elections seem irrelevant right now.
