Hizbul guerrilla killed in Kashmir gunfight

A guerrilla belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit was killed Friday in a 17-hour long gunfight between militants holed-up in a house and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir Pulwama district."Based on specific information about presence of militants, personnel of army's Rashtriya Rifles, special operations group (SOG) of the state police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force surrounded a house in Charsoo Awantipora village of Pulwama district late Thursday," a police officer told IANS here."When the surrounded militants were asked to lay down their weapons, they started firing at the security forces triggering a gunfight, which ended after nearly 17 hours Friday evening. One local militant of HM outfit identified as Showkat Ahmad has been killed in the exchange of fire," the official added.Eye-witnesses said the house in which the guerrillas had been hiding was destroyed during the gunfight.Police have detained two sons of the owner of the house where the guerrillas had been hiding.
