Flood furry:JKEA grieves loss of human lives

Jammu and Kashmir Editors Association Tuesday held a condolence meeting in memory of the those who lost precious lives in the recent devastating floods. The meeting was presided by the Association president Rasheed Rahi and it was attended by all the members of its Executive Council.In a statement to CNS, the Association said that rich tributes were paid to departed souls with special reference to the Photo Journalist Shafat Sidiqui who died in catastrophic floods while discharging his professional duties on Sep 7 near Batamaloo area.The president of the Association expressed grief over the losses incurred by journalist fraternity. Terming the loss to the journalist fraternity irreparable, Rasheed Rahi said that all the publications and news agencies were submerged in water for several days.

He said that JK Editors Association equally share the grief of people of Kashmir and stand by them at this hour of anguish. He asked the Journalist fraternity to come out of the distress and rise to the occasion to represent the aspirations and the sufferings of the entire population of Kashmir Valley. He advised the members of the fraternity to contact the office of JKEA with the details of the losses suffered by them at home and in their respective organizational offices so that a detailed report can be submitted to the government at various levels.Other members also spoke during the meeting and urged upon the president to lead the fraternity in general and the members of Association in particular to recover from the shock and re-establish their organizational activities, as the grieved Nation needs them at this hour of mutual calamity.
