Mirwaiz visits flood hit areas in Srinagar

In continuation with his visit and distributing relief to flood affected areas, chairman Huriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today visited the areas of Suthra Shi, Maidanpora, Deresh Kadal and its adjoining areas and interacted with the affected population. He was apprised of the great hardships and difficulties faced by the affected people there. While relating their woes and miseries, the people told the Mirwaiz that since the floods no Government official had visited the area or offered any kind of relief and assistance, which is highly condemnable.While expressing his sympathies and support for the people Mirwaiz said that that in these extremely trying times he and the people of Kashmir stand with them and feel their pain and suffering and extend their help and support in every possible manner. He stressed upon the people to meet the challenges of the aftermath of flood with courage, zeal and self help. While distributing relief material among the victims in these areas, Mirwaiz stressed upon people to show united face in view of the flood catastrophe.

Earlier during the visit to Residency Road, Regal lane, polo view, Mirwaiz met shopkeepers and traders who apprised him about the damaged caused by the floods. They stated that not a single government official has visited them to assess the scale of damage to their businesses caused by floods.

Expressing his solidarity and sympathy with the traders, Mirwaiz stated that it was highly unfortunate that government has remained insensitive to restoring business activities in these areas at the earliest.

Meanwhile the medical unit of Darul Khair Mirwaiz Manzil, in collaboration with the Islamic counseling centre organised a medical camp at Islamia higher secondary school Rajouri Kadal to treat patients suffering from psychiatric problems due to conflict and the situation arisen after the floods. Various psychologists who were part of the medical camp provided free treatment to the patients. Hundreds of people visited the medical camp.Another medical camp was established by Darul Khair at Bemina during which hundreds of people, recently hit by the floods visited and camp and received free medicine. The medical camps would continue in the coming days in different areas as well. (KNS)
