Chandigarh Administration Finalises Grand ‘Har Ghar Tiranga – 150 Years of Vande Mataram’ Campaign Plans

The Chandigarh Administration has finalised comprehensive arrangements for the nationwide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga - 150 Years of Vande Mataram’ campaign, to be observed from 9th to 17th August, 2026, as part of the celebrations of India’s Independence Day. A high-level review meeting was chaired today by Sh. H. Rajesh Prasad, IAS, Chief Secretary, UT Chandigarh Administration, to assess the preparedness of various departments and to ensure seamless coordination for the successful implementation of the campaign across the Union Territory.
The Chief Secretary directed all departments to ensure maximum public participation by actively involving educational institutions, government offices, Resident Welfare Associations, market associations, youth organisations, voluntary organisations and civil society. He emphasised that every department should organise meaningful activities that inspire patriotism and encourage citizens to proudly hoist the National Flag at their homes, institutions and workplaces.
A comprehensive presentation on the proposed activities and implementation strategy was made by Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, IAS, Secretary, Tourism & Culture, Chandigarh Administration. The detailed presentation outlined the concept, objectives, activity calendar, inter-departmental coordination mechanism and execution plan for the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga – 150 Years of Vande Mataram’ campaign as well as the observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.
The presentation highlighted the responsibilities of various departments and emphasised a collaborative approach to ensure the successful conduct of the campaign throughout the city. The Department of Culture has conceptualised an extensive series of patriotic, cultural and community-based programmes designed to celebrate India’s rich heritage, promote the spirit of nationalism and encourage active public participation.
A vibrant calendar of events has been prepared integrating culture, heritage, art, literature and youth engagement, with special emphasis on preserving the values of unity, diversity and national pride. The Department of Culture will play a pivotal role in coordinating with various government departments, educational institutions, artists, cultural organisations and civil society to ensure the successful implementation of the campaign across Chandigarh.
This year’s campaign is dedicated to commemorating 150 Years of Vande Mataram and seeks to strengthen the emotional bond of citizens with the National Flag while promoting the collective singing of Vande Mataram during public programmes across the city. As part of the campaign, government buildings, educational institutions, tourist destinations and other prominent public places will be illuminated and decorated with Tiranga-themed displays.
A wide range of activities including Tiranga rallies, walkathons, cycle, bike and car rallies, painting, quiz and rangoli competitions, patriotic exhibitions, cultural performances, nukkad nataks, laser and sound shows, Tiranga Melas, Tiranga Rakhi-making workshops, Tiranga Weaves and Threads activities, selfie points, boat rallies and heritage-based programmes will be organised throughout the campaign.
Special initiatives will also encourage citizens, particularly the youth, to write letters expressing gratitude to personnel of the Armed Forces and Police for their dedicated service to the nation. Citizens will also be encouraged to actively participate through digital platforms by uploading selfies with the National Flag on the official campaign portals.
The meeting also reviewed the arrangements for observing Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on 14th August, 2026, to commemorate the pain, sacrifice, trauma and displacement endured by millions during the Partition of India. Exhibitions, documentary screenings, curated heritage visits for school students, experience-sharing sessions by families affected by Partition, cultural presentations, candlelight tributes and silent marches will be organised across the city.
The main commemorative function will be held at Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh. The meeting was attended by Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, IAS, Home Secretary; Sh. Naik, IAS, Secretary Hospitality; Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, IAS, Secretary Tourism & Culture; Sh. Harpreet Singh Sudan, IAS, Secretary, Social Welfare, Women & Child Development; Sh. Pradeep Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Animal Husbandry & Fisheries; Sh. Mohamed Mansoor L., IAS, Secretary Cooperation; Sh. D. Karthikeyan, IAS, Secretary Information Technology; Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, along with other senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration.
