Deputy Commissioner Amritsar, Dalwinderjit Singh, today visited the sensitive areas along the Ravi River and Sakki Nallah along with officials of the district administration, the Drainage Department and the Punjab Mandi Board to review the flood prevention arrangements. 

During the visit, he inspected the ongoing construction of flood protection spurs at the BSF Border Out Posts (BOPs) at Dharam Prakash and Shahpur and directed the concerned officials to complete the works on a war footing at the earliest to ensure adequate protection during the monsoon season.

The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the water levels in the Ravi River and Sakki Nallah. He stated that the Ravi River is flowing well within its banks and there is no threat of flooding in the district. He informed that the recent heavy rainfall in the hilly areas of Jammu had caused additional water to enter the Ravi River through the Ujh River, leading to a temporary rise in the water level. 

However, the situation is now completely under control. He further added that the water levels in Sakki Nallah and the Beas River are also within safe limits.Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh directed the officials of the Punjab Mandi Board to ensure the immediate cleaning of all culverts on rural link roads so that rainwater can flow naturally without any obstruction.

He also instructed the officials of the Drainage Department to ensure the free flow of water through all drains and maintain continuous monitoring of the drainage system.Reassuring the residents of the district, the Deputy Commissioner said that the situation along the Ravi River and Sakki Nallah is being closely monitored by the district administration and there is no threat of flooding. He added that the Amritsar district administration is in constant touch with the authorities of the Ranjit Sagar Dam and the Ujh Barrage and is fully prepared to deal with any eventuality.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Pallavi Mishra, SDM Ajnala Charumita, District Revenue Officer Navkirat Singh Randhawa, along with officials of the Drainage Department, Punjab Mandi Board and other concerned departments, were also present during the visit.
