Residents of Eden City and Darpan City-3 on Sunday highlighted the persistent sewer overflow at the only entry and exit point of Eden City during a visit by Vineet Joshi, State Media Head of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Punjab. Joshi visited the locality after being invited by aggrieved residents to witness the problem firsthand.

Pointing towards the overflowing sewage, residents told Joshi that the waterlogged stretch is not caused by rainfall but by continuous sewer overflow. They said the issue has persisted for almost the entire year, making daily commuting extremely difficult and posing a serious health hazard.

Residents stated that while those travelling by cars manage to cross the stretch with relative ease, two-wheeler riders face inconvenience and pedestrians suffer the most. Women from the colony said they are the worst affected as they have to walk through the filthy water every day to purchase milk, vegetables, groceries and other household essentials. They also have to escort their children to and from the nearby school bus stop.

The residents informed Joshi that they have placed bricks in the sewage water to create a makeshift pathway. However, many people lose their balance while crossing, forcing them to step into the dirty water, and in some cases, even fall into it.

Addressing the gathering, Vineet Joshi said it was deeply concerning that despite regularly paying property tax and other municipal taxes, residents were still being forced to live under such unhygienic and unsafe conditions. He assured the residents that he would immediately take up the matter with the concerned authorities and make every effort to ensure the long-pending sewerage problem is resolved at the earliest.
