Residents of Kharar and members of various social, religious, and community organizations have submitted a memorandum to the Punjab Government demanding that Dr. Kapoor Chowk in Kharar be renamed as “Maharishi Bhagwan Valmiki Chowk.”
In their memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister of Punjab through the district administration, the residents stated that a historic temple dedicated to Maharishi Bhagwan Valmiki Ji Maharaj has existed at the chowk for many years and serves as a major religious and cultural centre for devotees from Kharar and nearby areas.
The memorandum further highlighted that a large number of members of the Valmiki community reside in and around the locality and have a deep historical, religious, and social connection with the temple. Residents argued that renaming the chowk would honour Maharishi Bhagwan Valmiki Ji’s immense contribution to Indian civilization and spiritual heritage while recognizing the religious significance of the temple.
The residents have urged the Punjab Government, District Administration, and Municipal Council Kharar to initiate the necessary process and pass a resolution for renaming the chowk at the earliest. They also requested government assistance for the development of the temple, stating that such a step would be welcomed by not only the Valmiki community but the entire city of Kharar.
