Directs officers for installation of Recharge Wells in Parks to Prevent Waterlogging

Haryana Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, on Friday, chaired the fourth meeting of the Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority (PMDA)  in Chandigarh that lasted for three hours and directed the officers to install recharge wells in every park, particularly to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon, and ensure that only treated water is used for irrigating parks.

The Chief Minister also reviewed in detail the works being undertaken under the PMDA and approved future development plans for the city. He said the government's objective is to make Panchkula the Number One City in Haryana and directed officials to prepare a comprehensive, time-bound action plan to translate this vision into reality.

The Chief Minister directed officers to work towards making Panchkula a slum-free city. He directed them to identify suitable land and prepare a detailed project for constructing high-rise residential apartments so that eligible families can be provided modern housing facilities.

He said the Municipal Corporation will be responsible for sanitation, sewerage, roads and water supply within the residential sectors to ensure better civic services. The PMDA will look after sector-dividing roads and storm-water drainage works, while HSVP will continue to collect water charges and maintain unsold properties as well as sanitation in residential sectors where nearly 25 per cent of the houses have been constructed.

Emphasising preparedness ahead of the monsoon, the Chief Minister directed that sewer lines and drains be cleaned at the earliest to ensure smooth disposal of rainwater. He directed officers to accord top priority to sanitation, sewerage, roads and drinking water supply at the ground level so that residents do not face any inconvenience. He also directed that three Super Sucker machines of HSVP be handed over to the Municipal Corporation to strengthen mechanised cleaning operations.Develop Fountain Park on the Lines of Leisure Valley, Gurugram

The Chief Minister directed that Fountain Park be developed on the lines of Leisure Valley, Gurugram, so that Panchkula becomes an even more beautiful city. He  said special attention should be paid to the city's beautification so that it emerges as a model city for other urban centres. He also directed that attractive wall paintings be created, all 14 major intersections be beautified, and a comprehensive proposal be prepared for storm-water drainage at these locations.

Next PMDA Meeting to Review Progress Next Month

The Chief Minister said the next meeting of the PMDA would be held next month to undertake a detailed review of the progress of all ongoing projects. He directed officers to prepare a comprehensive plan for installing ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) CCTV cameras across Panchkula to strengthen public safety and surveillance. He also asked that the city's shooting range be upgraded with international-standard facilities so that athletes can receive world-class training and compete at the global level.

Inquiry Ordered into Multifeature Park Project

Reviewing the Multifeature Park project, officials informed the Chief Minister that nearly Rs. 22 crore had already been spent on it. Taking serious note of the expenditure, the Chief Minister ordered an inquiry into the project and directed officials to submit a detailed report.He further directed that all  major parks in Panchkula be developed with ornamental plantations, restored water bodies filled with water, attractive fountains and adequate public toilet facilities.

11-km Urban Drains to be Beautified Under Jaldhara Yojana-II

The Chief Minister said construction of Atal Park would be completed by November 30. He also directed that Children's Park be equipped with modern recreational facilities and play equipment for children.He further directed  the Police Department to take strict action against persons found consuming drugs in public parks.

Under Jaldhara Yojana-II, the 11-kilometre-long drains passing through the city will be beautified. These include the drain passing through Rajiv Indira Colony and the Sector-1 Chowk–Industrial Area Phase-I drain.The Chief Minister also announced that five new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) will be established in the city. Tenders for three STPs have already been issued, while action on the remaining projects is in progress.

To ensure uninterrupted water supply to Pinjore, Kalka and Morni, he directed officials to identify suitable land for constructing new waterworks. He said the pipeline connecting the 24 MLD waterworks under construction in Sector-32 with Kaushalya Dam would be completed by next month.He further informed that development works worth nearly ₹575 crore are currently underway under 22 different projects across Panchkula.

Presentation Highlights Progress on Roads and Park Renovation

Chief Executive Officer PMDA and Director General, Information, Public Relations and Languages Department, K. Makrand Pandurang, made a detailed presentation on the development roadmap for Panchkula.He informed the meeting that work has been completed on 34 of the city's 60 roads. Renovation of Asia's largest Cactus Garden and the Herbal Park has been completed, while renovation work is in progress at Mango Park (MDC), City Park and Topiary Park.
