Governor inaugurates Rotary Club Chandigarh's waste management project

The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria today attended the Annual Installation Ceremony of the Rotary Club Chandigarh as the Chief Guest at CII, Chandigarh. Addressing the gathering, he said that Rotary has an important role in nurturing social responsibility, leadership through service and civic values among the youth, while expanding its outreach to rural and underprivileged communities.

The Administrator said that Rotary's philosophy of "Service Above Self" has been a powerful force for nation-building and social transformation. He lauded the organisation's remarkable contribution to education, healthcare, sanitation, environmental conservation and the global polio eradication campaign, and observed that voluntary organisations complement government efforts by strengthening public participation and contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Earlier, Shri Kataria inaugurated the Club's waste management project aimed at promoting scientific management and recycling of household waste and e-waste. He emphasised that environmental sustainability and active public participation are essential for building cleaner and healthier cities.

Congratulating the newly installed President Ms. Teena Avninder Virk and her team, the Administrator expressed confidence that the Club would continue its distinguished legacy of community service. He also appreciated the outgoing President Ms. Abha Sharma Joshi for her leadership during the past year and made special mention of the humanitarian contributions of Past Rotary International President Shri Rajendra K. Saboo and Mrs. Usha Saboo in advancing international medical initiatives and the Heartline project.

On the occasion, President Ms. Teena Avninder Virk outlined the Club's forthcoming initiatives, including plastic waste recycling through vertical gardens, management of e-waste, cloth and wet waste, scholarships for girl students and the development of a Miyawaki forest in Sector 38 West. Among those present were Rotary District 3080 Governor Dr. Rita Kalra, Immediate Past District Governor Ravi Prakash, Past Rotary International President Shri Rajendra K. Saboo, members of the Rotary fraternity and other distinguished guests
