DISHA Committee Reviews Development Works in Amritsar Lok Sabha Constituency

A meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) was held today at the Local Savings Bhawan under the chairmanship of Member of Parliament and Chairman of the DISHA Committee, Mr. Gurjeet Singh Aujla. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh, Municipal Commissioner Mr. Bikramjit Singh Shergill, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mr. Surinder Singh, SDM Amritsar-II Ms. Alka Kalia, DCP Mr. Jagjit Singh Walia, along with senior officers from various departments.
During the meeting, the progress of various welfare and development schemes of the Central and Punjab Governments was reviewed in detail. The committee also reviewed the action taken on the decisions of the previous meeting and directed the concerned departments to complete the pending works at the earliest.
Addressing the meeting, MP Mr. Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that Amritsar receives a large number of pilgrims and tourists from across the country and abroad every day.Therefore, the city's sanitation system should be further strengthened.
He also directed the authorities to remove illegal encroachments by slum dwellers from different parts of the city. The Municipal Corporation informed the committee that efforts are being intensified to improve door-to-door waste collection and expedite the bio-remediation work at the city's dump site.
Expressing serious concern over the sale of adulterated milk, paneer, sweets and other food items, Mr. Aujla directed the Health Department and Food Safety officials to launch a special drive against food adulteration and initiate strict legal action against offenders.
He emphasized that adulteration of food items would not be tolerated under any circumstances. The Member of Parliament also instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to install proper directional signboards at all major intersections and roads across the city to facilitate visitors coming from outside.
He further directed that warning signboards must be installed at least 500 metres ahead of every road construction or repair site. He warned that if any accident occurs due to negligence, strict legal action would be taken against the concerned officials and contractors.
He also directed the authorities to ensure the timely completion of ongoing development projects, including New Amritsar and the Valla Bypass Bridge, without any delay. The meeting also witnessed detailed discussions on Tung Dhab Drain, solid waste management, illegal encroachments, traffic congestion, Fatehgarh Churian Road, Majitha Road, Loharka Road, the Ring Road, Elevated Road, National Highway projects and flood protection measures. Keeping in view the approaching monsoon, directions were issued to ensure proper cleaning of drains and to maintain better coordination among all concerned departments.
The committee also reviewed the implementation and progress of various flagship schemes, including the National Health Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, Soil Health Card Scheme, National Rural Drinking Water Programme, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Mid-Day Meal Scheme, and several other schemes of the Central and State Governments.
Deputy Commissioner Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh assured the Member of Parliament and Chairman of the DISHA Committee that coordination among all departments is being further strengthened and every possible effort will be made to ensure timely delivery of government services to the people.
