The programme, held in connection with a devotional gathering dedicated to Khatu Shyam Baba and the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra, witnessed the participation of prominent saints, religious leaders, social workers, public representatives and devotees from across the country.
The event featured devotional hymns, spiritual discourses and preparations for the departure of Sadhus towards the holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnath. To mark the auspicious occasion, a grand devotional kirtan was organised, drawing a large gathering of saints, devotees and local residents.
A community langar was also arranged, where devotees were served meals as part of the traditional religious celebrations. The event witnessed an atmosphere of devotion, with bhajans and spiritual hymns filling the temple premises. Saints from different parts of the country expressed great enthusiasm and eagerness to undertake the sacred pilgrimage and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva at the holy Amarnath Cave Shrine.
Welcoming the visiting saints and spiritual leaders, Yudshvir Sethi said Jammu has always served as the gateway to the sacred Amarnath pilgrimage and continues to uphold its tradition of hospitality by warmly receiving pilgrims from every corner of the country.
"We are blessed that saints and devotees from across India visit Jammu every year. Their presence fills the city with spirituality and devotion. It is our responsibility to ensure they receive every possible facility and respect during their stay," he said.
Paying rich tributes to the saint community, the MLA credited religious leaders with preserving India's spiritual traditions during challenging times.
"Sadhus and saints have played a historic role in safeguarding Sanatan Dharma and keeping the spirit of Hindutva alive. We bow before them for their selfless service and lifelong dedication to preserving our ancient culture and values," Sethi said. Recalling the difficult years when terrorists attempted to disrupt the Amarnath pilgrimage, Sethi said the determination shown by devotees ensured that the Yatra continued uninterrupted despite repeated threats.
"There was a time when terrorists openly declared that they would not allow even a single Hindu pilgrim to undertake the Amarnath Yatra. However, the courage of devotees and the determination of our people defeated those designs. The pilgrimage not only survived but has grown from hundreds of pilgrims to lakhs every year," he said.
Describing Amarnath pilgrims as ambassadors of peace and faith, Sethi said every pilgrim who returns home carries with them a message of communal harmony, resilience and the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir. "Every devotee who visits Shri Amarnath becomes an ambassador of Jammu and Kashmir.
They tell the nation that faith remains strong, people are united, and the spirit of Sanatan Dharma continues to flourish despite every challenge," he remarked. The MLA said Hindutva represents India's way of life, cultural heritage and civilisational values rather than merely a religious identity.
"Hindutva is our culture, our tradition and our way of living. It reflects the values of tolerance, compassion and service. Those who tried to weaken these traditions could never succeed because saints and devotees continued to keep this spiritual legacy alive," he added.
Sethi also assured the gathering that every possible arrangement would continue to be made for the smooth conduct of the Amarnath Yatra and other religious events falling within his constituency. He noted that important locations associated with the pilgrimage, including accommodation centres and religious venues, are situated in Jammu East and receive continuous support from local volunteers and public representatives.
The MLA concluded by reaffirming his commitment to strengthening religious tourism, preserving Jammu's spiritual heritage and ensuring that every pilgrim visiting the Union Territory experiences safety, dignity and warm hospitality. He urged citizens to actively participate in welcoming devotees and contribute towards making the annual Amarnath Yatra a grand success.
