A delegation led by Chandigarh Residents Associations Welfare Federation (CRAWFED) Chairman Hitesh Puri and Senior Vice Chairman-cum-Nominated Councillor Umesh Ghai met the Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, on Monday and highlighted several public welfare and development-related issues affecting residents across different sectors of the city.

The delegation included Joginder Singh, President of Sector 38-A and 38-B RWA; Hem Raj Satija, Vice President of Sector 23 RWA; Arvind Badoni, General Secretary of Sector 45-A RWA; and other representatives. During the meeting, the delegation prominently raised concerns regarding public health issues arising from the presence of the N-Choe and the Solid Storage Centre (SSK) complex in Sector 23-D.

The representatives also sought amendments to the Building Bye-laws to encourage better utilization of rooftops. They recommended promoting green roofs, terrace gardening, and rooftop solar energy systems through suitable policy changes.

According to the delegation, such measures would help improve air quality, enhance the use of renewable energy, and ensure more efficient utilization of existing urban infrastructure. Another key issue discussed was the persistent traffic congestion and road safety concerns on the V-5 Road in Sector 45-A.

The delegation pointed out that increasing traffic pressure poses risks to local residents, schoolchildren, and senior citizens, and stressed the need for effective traffic management measures. The Deputy Commissioner listened to all the concerns raised by the delegation and assured them that the issues would be examined seriously and appropriate action would be taken.

CRAWFED office-bearers expressed hope that the administration’s intervention would provide relief to residents and help resolve the pending issues at the earliest.
