DC Shrikant Suse reviews preparedness for IPPI-2026

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Shrikant Suse, today chaired a meeting of the District Task Force (DTF) to review and finalize preparations for the upcoming Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI)-2026 programme, scheduled to be conducted on June 28, 2026.
The meeting reviewed the district’s preparedness, implementation strategy, logistics management and inter-departmental coordination to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the immunization drive. The Deputy Chief Medical Officer (Dy CMO), Kupwara, gave a detailed presentation highlighting the district action plan, deployment strategy, vaccine logistics and targets fixed under the programme.
He informed that 130,085 children in the 0–5 years age group have been identified as the target population across the district. To ensure comprehensive coverage, 766 vaccination booths have been established, while 158 supervisors have been deployed for effective monitoring and supervision.
A total workforce of 3,088 personnel, comprising health workers, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, supervisory staff and other support personnel, has been mobilized for the successful implementation of the campaign. Reviewing the preparedness, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Health Department to strengthen field-level monitoring, ensure the effective functioning of all vaccination booths and maintain an uninterrupted cold chain to preserve vaccine potency and ensure availability of other logistics.
He stressed that no eligible child should be left uncovered during the campaign. The Deputy Commissioner also emphasized the need to pay special attention to transit and migratory populations, particularly nomadic families residing in higher reaches and remote areas of the district, to ensure universal immunization coverage.
Highlighting the importance of public participation, he called for intensified Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities through ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, educational institutions and other stakeholders to create greater public awareness and encourage maximum community participation in the immunization drive.
The meeting was attended by Chief Medical Officer Kupwara, Dr. Zaffar; Deputy CMO, Chief Education Officer Kupwara, Medical Superintendent, Government Medical College Handwara, Medical Superintendent, SDH Kupwara, Zonal Education Officer Kupwara, Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Kupwara, Block Medical Officers, Child Development Project Officers and other concerned officers.
