Member of Parliament from Sri Anandpur Sahib, Malvinder Singh Kang has called for stringent measures to curb drug trafficking into Punjab through routes originating from Gujarat, asserting that the growing menace poses a serious threat to the state's youth.

He urged the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, to intervene immediately and strengthen efforts to prevent narcotics from entering Punjab from Gujarat route. Addressing media persons during a series of inaugurations of development projects funded through the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) Scheme, Kang said that recent large-scale recoveries of contraband by Punjab Police indicate that international drug syndicates and anti-national elements have altered their smuggling routes into Punjab.

"The recent seizures have exposed a worrying trend. It is imperative that the Union Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs take immediate and effective action to stop drug trafficking through Gujarat-based routes and protect Punjab from the scourge of drugs," he said.

Highlighting his developmental initiatives, Kang stated that despite limited MPLAD funds and the vast geographical area of nine Assembly constituencies falling under the Sri Anandpur Sahib Parliamentary Constituency, he remains committed to addressing the needs and aspirations of the people.

Commenting on the political landscape, Kang described the BJP as a party disconnected from the common people and lacking a grassroots organizational structure in Punjab. He said that the people of Punjab continue to repose faith in the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann owing to his transparent, honest and people-centric governance.

Kang said that over the past four-and-a-half years, the Punjab Government has fulfilled its commitments through various welfare-oriented initiatives and governance reforms that have brought visible changes on the ground. He expressed confidence that the people would once again support the present government due to its performance, accountability and focus on public welfare.

As part of his development agenda, the MP inaugurated four water tankers costing Rs 3 lakh each for the villages of Dusarna, Salempur Khurd, Mehrauli and Dhanaura. He also inaugurated solar lighting projects worth Rs 1.90 lakh each in villages Baraudi and Bharatpur, besides dedicating an indoor gymnasium constructed at a cost of Rs 3 lakh in village Sialba.

Residents and Gram Panchayat representatives of the beneficiary villages expressed gratitude to the Member of Parliament for addressing local requirements and visiting their villages. Kang assured them that he would continue to pursue additional funding and developmental projects for strengthening infrastructure and improving public amenities across the constituency.
