Punjab’s senior Cabinet Minister and State President of Aam Aadmi Party, Aman Arora, said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has launched the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign with a firm commitment to make the state drug-free. To transform this campaign into a mass movement, special awareness vehicles were flagged off today.
He said that direct public participation in this fight against drugs is extremely important, as the complete eradication of the drug menace is possible only through the joint efforts of society and the government. Arora said that, over the past period, the Punjab Government has taken large-scale action against drug traffickers and the illegal drug trade.
He said that the police and other concerned departments are continuously taking strict action to dismantle the illegal networks linked to drug trafficking, which has strengthened public confidence that the government is working with firm determination to eradicate drugs from the roots. He said that although several channels already exist for reporting drug trafficking, many people hesitate to share information out of fear that their identity might be disclosed.
Therefore, in the first phase, three awareness vehicles are being deployed in each constituency, equipped with special complaint boxes. People can submit information regarding drug traffickers in these boxes without revealing their names or contact details.
He informed that nodal officers have been appointed to verify every piece of information received, and action will be taken accordingly by the police, the Health Department, and other concerned agencies. The government is also making necessary efforts for the treatment and rehabilitation of individuals suffering from drug addiction.
The Cabinet Minister said that this battle will continue until Punjab is completely drug-free. He said that since it took many years for the drug problem to spread in society, it may also take time to eliminate it completely, but there will be no compromise in the government’s efforts.
Arora further said that one of the objectives of this campaign is to reach out to families—especially mothers, sisters, and women—who are suffering due to a family member’s drug addiction but are unable to approach government offices for help. These vehicles will travel from village to village and ward to ward to collect complaints and suggestions from the public, which will further strengthen the dream of a drug-free Punjab.
He appealed to the people to become part of this public movement against drugs without fear or hesitation and to share every piece of information regarding drug trafficking with the government so that the future generations of Punjab can be protected from the harmful effects of drugs. On this occasion, the district coordinator of the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign, Sandeep Singh Duggan, said that the Punjab Government is leaving no stone unturned to create awareness among the people against drugs. As part of this effort, seminars and review meetings are being organized, continuous interaction with the youth is being maintained, and drug peddlers are being identified.
He said that an effective anti-drug campaign is underway in Sangrur district and is receiving a strong response from all quarters. Inspired by Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, the youth are participating in large numbers to strengthen this campaign.
On this occasion, constituency coordinator Birbal Cheema, vice coordinator Manpreet Sheron, Senior AAP leader Labh Singh Neelowal, along with various village sarpanches and block coordinators of the anti-drug front Sunam, were also present.
