World Blood Donor Day is observed every year on 14th June to express gratitude to voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors for their life-saving gift of blood. The theme of this year’s campaign is “One Drop of Humanity – Give Blood, Save Lives.”
As part of the month-long celebrations, a series of blood donation camps has been organized in association with various NGOs, resulting in the collection of 232 units of blood so far. An in-house Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organized at the Blood Centre of Government Multi Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh on 11.06.2026.
Staff members participated enthusiastically in the camp, and 53 units of blood were collected for the benefit of needy patients. Dr. Suman Singh, Director Health & Family Welfare, U.T. Chandigarh, inaugurated the camp and honoured regular blood donors.
She thanked them for their invaluable gift of life and highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation and regular blood donation camps through community participation to maintain adequate blood stocks for patients suffering from severe anaemia and other medical conditions.
The Medical Superintendent, Dr. Sadbhavna Pandit, and the Deputy Medical Superintendent, Dr. Parmjit Singh, also graced the occasion and encouraged the donors. They emphasized that committed, regular, and safe blood donors play a vital role in saving the lives of patients suffering from severe anaemia, cancer, thalassaemia, trauma due to accidents, and obstetric complications.
To commemorate this year’s theme, “One Drop of Humanity – Give Blood, Save Lives,” a symbolic drop of blood was created using fabric to raise awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation.
