Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Sangrur, Poonamdeep Kaur, while interacting with the media at the meeting hall of the District Administrative Complex, stated that the Election Commission of India, New Delhi, has issued the schedule regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Punjab, and the entire process will be carried out with complete transparency and fairness.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that from June 25, 2026, to July 24, 2026, BLOs will conduct door-to-door visits to get the Enumeration Forms filled by voters. For this task, 1006 BLOs, 107 Supervisors, 05 EROs, 10 AEROs, and other supporting election staff have been deployed in the district.

At present, Sangrur district has 917,330 voters, according to which each BLO will have to conduct SIR for an average of 912 voters. Special training will also be imparted to the BLOs for SIR so that the revision work can be completed smoothly.

She further informed that the rationalisation of polling stations in the district will be completed by July 24, 2026, and it will be ensured that the number of voters at any polling station does not exceed 1,200. She said that the main objective of the Election Commission is to include every eligible citizen in the voter list and remove the names of ineligible persons from the rolls.

She added that holding duplicate voter registrations is a punishable offence under law, for which imprisonment is also prescribed. She appealed to all voters to extend full cooperation to the BLOs and provide the required information in a timely manner during the Special Intensive Revision process.

All voters in the district will have to fill out the Enumeration Form under SIR. In this regard, BLOs will contact households three times to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the process. She clarified that the Aadhaar Card will only be accepted as proof of identity and not as proof of citizenship or residence.

She further stated that under the Pre-SIR Mapping, 801,395 voters out of the total 917,330 voters in Sangrur district have already been mapped, which constitutes 87.36 percent of the total voters. In rural areas, 91.74 percent mapping has been completed, while in urban areas approximately 76.39 percent mapping has been completed.

If any voter does not fill out the Enumeration Form under SIR, his/her name will not be included in the draft voter list to be published on July 31, 2026. Claims and objections will be received from July 31, 2026, to August 30, 2026, and these will be disposed of by September 28, 2026.

The final publication of the voter list will be made on October 1, 2026. A Helpdesk has also been established at the District Election Office, Sangrur, to provide information and assistance regarding SIR.

During the media interaction, she informed that political parties have been requested to appoint Booth Level Agents so that the process can be completed smoothly. She appealed to all voters and political parties in the district to fully cooperate with the election staff during this important exercise so that the electoral rolls can be made more accurate and transparent.

On this occasion, Sukhchain Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development), Gagandeep Singh, SDM, Sunam, Satish Chander, SDM, Sangrur, Rajvir Singh, Assistant Commissioner (General), and Paramjit Kaur, Election Tehsildar, were present.
