The Haryana Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini here today, approved an important agenda pertaining to the School Education Department regarding recruitment to Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) posts in the Mewat Cadre. The decision has been taken to address the shortage of teachers in government schools of the Mewat region and to safeguard the academic interests of students.
In 2012, the state government had created two separate cadres in the School Education Department — the Rest of Haryana (ROH) Cadre and the Mewat Cadre. In 2024, Haryana Public Service Commission issued advertisements for recruitment to a total of 3,069 PGT posts across 20 subjects in both cadres, including 2,787 posts for the ROH Cadre and 282 posts for the Mewat Cadre.
During the recruitment process, a common examination was conducted for both cadres. Most meritorious candidates opted for the ROH Cadre as their preferred choice, resulting in an inadequate number of selected candidates for the Mewat Cadre. Consequently, several posts in the Mewat Cadre were likely to remain vacant.
To address this situation, the Cabinet has advised the HPSC for aspecial arrangement under which eligible candidates who appeared in the merit list after the selected candidates of the ROH Cadre can be considered and be recommended for appointment against vacant posts in the Mewat Cadre.
The decision is likely to help overcome the shortage of teachers in the Mewat region and ensure better educational facilities for students there.
