Priya Sethi Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party Jammu and Kashmir and former Minister, on Sunday stressed the importance of booth-level organization and grassroots strengthening while addressing party workers during the district-level training programme organised under the “Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Prashikshan Mahabhiyan 2026” in Akhnoor.

The programme was organised by BJP District Akhnoor and attended by several senior party leaders and workers. Among those present were H'MLA Mohan Lal Bhagat, Kuldeep Sharma, District President Akhnoor, Vinay Gupta, Prabhari, and Vaishno, Seh-Prabhari.

Addressing the gathering, Priya Sethi said that many people have witnessed several elections and political changes over the years and understand how political movements and public opinion are shaped. She said the foremost priority of the BJP has always been the welfare of the nation and strengthening the country from the grassroots level.

Referring to the political developments after Independence, Priya Sethi said India was still stabilising after 1947 when Congress dominated the political landscape. She stated that several nationalist leaders such as Syama Prasad Mukherjee, Subhas Chandra Bose and Rabindranath Tagore realised that the country’s cultural and civilizational identity was being weakened.

She said Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee even sacrificed his cabinet position and later his life while struggling to protect the nation’s interests, particularly over the issue of Article 370. Sethi stated that the BJP expanded its reach by working tirelessly at the booth level and connecting directly with people.

Highlighting the example of West Bengal, Priya Sethi said it once appeared impossible for the BJP to establish itself there because of the dominance of regional political forces. However, through continuous grassroots efforts, the party succeeded in creating a strong base.

“In West Bengal, around 70,000 booths were established and BJP workers were activated at every booth. It was this strong booth-level structure and dedication of workers that helped the party grow politically,” she said. She added that BJP workers continuously connected with ordinary citizens including shopkeepers, tea vendors and local residents, which helped strengthen the party’s outreach and public trust.

“Booth-level workers form the backbone of the BJP and are responsible for carrying the party’s ideology and programmes to every household,” she asserted. Speaking about Jammu and Kashmir, Priya Sethi highlighted the BJP’s political growth over the years.

She said the party had very limited representation in earlier elections but gradually strengthened its position through disciplined organization and hard work by party workers. She emphasized that every election victory depends upon a strong organizational framework, particularly at the booth level.

Explaining the party structure, she said the role of the booth president is the most important because all election strategies ultimately revolve around booth management and public outreach. The BJP leader further said that modern politics requires continuous engagement throughout the year rather than activity only during election campaigns.

She stressed that workers must remain connected with people and stay active on social media and digital platforms to effectively communicate party policies and programmes. Sethi also underlined the need for inclusive booth committees with representation from women, youth, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

She said every worker should contribute actively towards strengthening the organization and promoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of nation-building. The programme concluded with party leaders reaffirming their commitment towards organizational strengthening and preparing workers for future political and social outreach programmes across the region.
