National Lok Adalat was organized on today under the dynamic leadership and guidance of Justice Deepak Sibal, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HALSA). The Lok Adalat was successfully conducted across all 22 districts and 38 sub-divisions of Haryana, marking a significant step towards strengthening access to affordable and speedy justice.

A heartening settlement between senior citizen parents and their sons was achieved during the National Lok Adalat held at Panchkula Court. The senior citizens had filed a maintenance petition against their sons under Section 144 of the BNSS Act before the Principal Judge, Family Court.

During the amicable proceedings, both parties were encouraged to resolve the dispute through dialogue and mutual understanding. One son agreed to pay Rs.11,000 per month along with medical expenses, while the other agreed to pay Rs.9,000 per month to the parents from the date of filing of the petition.

In view of the settlement reached in the Lok Adalat, the parents withdrew their petition.The case emerged as a touching example of how National Lok Adalat not only resolves legal disputes amicably but also helps restore family harmony, dignity and emotional support for senior citizens.In another significant development, the matter relating to the recent stand-off between the district judiciary and the local Bar Association at Faridabad was also taken up during the National Lok Adalat and resolved amicably through dialogue and reconciliation. 

The advocates expressed regret over the incident, and the Court withdrew its earlier observations recorded in a case, thereby restoring cordial relations and harmony between the Bench and the Bar.Justice Deepak Sibal reviewed and monitored the functioning of the National Lok Adalat across the State and emphasized the need for a litigant-friendly, efficient and result-oriented approach by all Lok Adalat Benches to ensure maximum resolution of disputes through consensus and reconciliation. 

His Lordship reiterated that National Lok Adalat serves as an effective platform for inexpensive, expeditious and harmonious settlement of disputes while strengthening public confidence in the justice delivery system.Under the directions of the Executive Chairman, HALSA, continuous monitoring of Lok Adalat proceedings across Haryana was carried out through video conferencing.

The National Lok Adalat, including pre-Lok Adalat sittings, witnessed disposal of 4,25,746 cases involving a wide variety of disputes. The overwhelming response from litigants reflected growing public faith in Lok Adalat as an effective mechanism of alternative dispute resolution. The settlements not only saved valuable time and litigation expenses of the parties but also significantly contributed towards reducing pendency of cases in courts across Haryana.

An amount of Rs.1,08,98,47,338 was also disbursed/awarded during the National Lok Adalat.

For the effective conduct of the National Lok Adalat, a total of 182 Benches were constituted across the State to take up both pre-litigation and pending matters, including civil disputes, matrimonial cases, motor accident claim cases, bank recovery matters, cheque bounce cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act, traffic challans, compoundable criminal offences, and matters pending before Permanent Lok Adalats (Public Utility Services), Debt Recovery Tribunal and State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
