The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), along with the District Trade Commission, staged a protest near the Bus Stand in Sangrur today against the steep increase in gas cylinder prices by the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the protest, strong criticism was directed at the BJP.

Chairman of the District Traders Commission, Sangrur, Arun Jindal, along with a large number of AAP volunteers, participated in the demonstration. The speakers said in unison that the BJP-led Central Government has proven to be insensitive towards the common man and has imposed an additional burden on household kitchens.

It is noteworthy that the price of a commercial LPG cylinder has now increased by ₹993. The 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder is commonly used in hotels and restaurants, as well as by small-scale food vendors. As a result, the prices of food items are also expected to rise, ultimately affecting the common people.

Earlier, prices were increased by ₹195.50 per cylinder on April 1 and ₹114.50 per cylinder on March 1. With these three hikes combined, the total increase in commercial LPG rates amounts to ₹1303.

AAP leaders, while targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stated that the Central Government shows concern for the hardships of common citizens only during election periods and neglects them afterward. They further said that it has been three months since the Iran conflict began, and instead of burdening the public financially, the government should have formulated a concrete relief plan.

However, by sharply increasing cylinder prices, the government has further strained the public. The protesters also remarked that when the BJP was not in power, its leaders would take to the streets even over a ₹10 increase in cylinder prices, but now they remain silent.

The protesters strongly demanded that the increased prices be rolled back. On this occasion, Ram Kumar from the Trade Commission, Sunam constituency, along with various office bearers and a large number of volunteers, was present.
