The Department of Telecommunications, Haryana LSA, organized an awareness program in Fatehabad, Haryana, to prevent cyber fraud and cybercrime

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Haryana LSA, in coordination with Fatehabad Police, successfully organized a high-impact Interaction-cum-Awareness Programme at Police Lines, Fatehabad. The meeting was jointly chaired by Shri Radhacharan Shakya, Additional Director General Telecom, Haryana LSA, and Ms. Nikita Khattar, Superintendent of Police, Fatehabad.
The event witnessed participation from around 100 attendees, including police officials, Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), and Points of Sale (PoS) from across the district. The SP, Fatehabad, appreciated the DoT’s initiative in organizing such awareness programmes jointly.
She emphasized that addressing the evolving threats posed by fraudsters in the present digital era requires close coordination among all stakeholders to effectively prevent and curb cybercrime. The Additional Director General, Haryana LSA, highlighted the pivotal role of secure communication in nation-building and in advancing the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of Digital Bharat.
He underscored the growing menace of cyber fraud and scams exploiting telecom services, stressing the need for vigilance and proactive measures by all stakeholders.
Further, DoT highlighted the various initiatives of DoT and emphasised the processes as below-
• Measures to Combat Cyber Fraud:
o Use of Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) for tracking stolen/misused devices
o Sanchar Saathi Portal for citizen-centric telecom security services
o Collaboration with I4C and NCRB for identifying cybercrime patterns
o Development of Financial Risk Indicators (FRIs) with banks to flag suspicious transactions
• Citizen Awareness & Reporting Mechanisms:
o 1930 Helpline for immediate reporting of cyber financial fraud
o www.cybercrime.gov.in for lodging complaints
o Awareness on 1600 series numbers for secure banking communications
• Sanchar Saathi Initiatives Showcased:
o Chakshu – reporting suspicious calls/messages
o Block lost/stolen mobile handsets
o Know mobile connections issued in one’s name
o Know Your Mobile Handset (KYM)
o RICWIN – tracking international calls
• SIM Issuance Guidelines:The programme also covered the SIM acquisition process, emphasizing necessary precautions for PoS operators and TSPs to prevent misuse.
The DoT reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding citizens through awareness initiatives, preventive measures, and strong coordination with law enforcement agencies and service providers, thereby fostering a secure, reliable, and responsible telecom ecosystem.
