Wheat Procurement Begins in Barnala ; Punjab Govt Committed to Procure Every Grain says Meet Hayer

Member of Parliament (Sangrur) Sh. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer along with Deputy Commissioner Mr. Harpreet Singh, today visited the main grain market and initiated the wheat procurement. Meet Hayer interacted with farmers, commission agents and labourers to review the arrangements.
Extending greetings on the festival of Baisakhi to farmers, MP Meet Hayer reiterated that the Punjab Government is fully committed to procuring every single grain of farmers’ produce. Today procurement started by Pungrain agency at the shop of commission agent Charan Dass with the purchase of wheat brought by farmer Balwinder Singh, a resident of Ena Bajwa village.
Interacting with the media, MP Meet Hayer stated that wheat procurement has commenced in district Barnala and will be carried out by four agencies PUNSUP, Warehousing Corporation, Markfed and Pungrain. He assured that farmers will not face any inconvenience and that payments will be credited directly into their bank accounts within 24 hours of selling the produce.
He further added that the Punjab Government has issued strict directions to ensure foolproof arrangements in all mandis. In Barnala district, necessary arrangements have been ensured through meetings with all stakeholders including commission agents, transporters and labour contractors.
Deputy Commissioner Mr. Harpreet Singh informed that wheat procurement will be done at 104 mandis and 45 temporary yards across the district. He added that an arrival of approximately 4,69,000 MT of wheat is expected this season.
Deputy Commissioner appealed to the farmers to dry their produce properly before bringing it to the mandis to ensure smooth and timely procurement. Among those present on the occasion were District Mandi Officer Bir Inder Singh, Secretary Market Committee Barnala Mr. Jasmanpreet Singh, Chairman Improvement Trust Ram Tirath Manna, Halqa Incharge Harinder Singh Dhaliwal, District Planning Board member Ishwinder Singh Jandu, Hasanpreet Bhardwaj, Dheeraj Dadhahur, along with commission agents, farmers and other dignitaries.
